5 Lagu with Polka Wars’ and Marsh Kids’ Giovanni Rahmadeva

To start off the week, we speak to Polka Wars’ and Marsh Kids’ drummer, Giovanni Rahmadeva (Deva) for this edition’s of Lima Lagu. Deva is also an entrepreneur and he gets involved in the management of Polka Wars.

Let’s find out his picks:

1. The song that first made you want to learn to play a musical instrument

Kiss Me – Sixpence None the Richer

“I tried to learn guitar as a kid, this song was a hit back then and seemed easy, however it frustrated me and almost made me give up music as I couldn’t play it. Damn. As you know, every bass player is just a failed guitar player. So yea, a few years later I started playing music again and switched to bass and now to drums. And now, 15 years later, I can finally play this song.”

2. The song that reminds you of high school

Motion City Soundtrack – Hold Me Down

“It’s so cheesy & personal haha. When you got the nerve to ask someone out on a date for the first time, instead of picking the traditional pick-up line, you took that person walk around the school and just gave your fave CD + dedicated this last track.”

3. Your guilty pleasure song

Jesse McCartney – Beautiful Soul

“This song is a perfect little pop gem, with a catchy hook & a cheerful chorus of ‘chasing someone’. Gombal. We’ve been known to play this song several times over on repeat since junior high haha. We’ve gone on a trip to Jakarta – Bandung and back and just played this song, brainwashed.”

4. Polka Wars won Converse Rubber Tracks Jakarta and will go on their way to record in New York early May. What’s your favourite song about New York?

Billy Joel – Scenes From An Italian Restaurant

“Like a few unfinished Beatles’ Abbey Road (album) songs which were put together to create a coherent masterpiece!

When listening to the opening and closing parts, we would believe and picture the scene and the atmosphere (as the title promises).

When Polka Wars are in New York May, 1 -15 2015 I would go to the restaurant if I could: “the Fontana di Trevi” 151 West 57th Street, New York City.

5. Favourite Indonesian song

Eross feat. Okta – Gie

“Chords + lyrics + singer + theme = perfect!”

Polka Wars will launch their”Sanctuary / This Providence” 7inch single on lightning yellow vinyl and will perform at the release party on Wednesday 4 February 2015 at Level II at The Foundry along with Jirapah and Animalism. Their record will be available to purchase at the event. Don’t miss it!
